Passenger Denied Boarding Abandons Dog in U.S.

A passenger from Texas in the United States is facing charges of animal cruelty and abandonment after leaving his dog at Pittsburgh International Airport.

According to Allegheny County Police, the incident occurred around 5:00 p.m. on Friday at the departures level of the terminal. Officers responded to reports of a dog roaming freely at the airport and, with the help of bystanders, safely secured the animal. The Labrador puppy was later placed in foster care.

During the investigation, officers spoke with 42-year-old Omar Perez. He initially claimed that an Uber driver had abandoned the dog. However, the investigation later revealed that Perez himself had left the dog after learning that it would not be accepted on his flight. He has since been formally charged.

Authorities noted that this is the second similar incident at Pittsburgh International Airport in recent times. In 2023, another passenger left a dog in a stroller near the entrance of the short-term parking area. The individual was initially charged with animal cruelty and neglect but later resolved the case by pleading guilty and paying a $150 fine.
